PROGRAM DIRECTOR IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP & SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
POSITION: Nine-month Program Director position in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management within the Business Department at the Crookston campus of the University of Minnesota. An excellent fringe benefits package is offered. Salary and rank will be commensurate with education and experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities of the program director include academic administration, supervision, teaching, advising, faculty and curriculum development, assist with internship and permanent job placement, interaction with other programs, and service to the university and community. The successful applicant will help lead the program in its interactions with other area programs as part of the northwest Minnesota rural development efforts. Additional responsibilities include the development of online educational courses.

TENURE TRACK POSITION IN SOIL SCIENCE
POSITION: Full-time, nine-month, tenure track position starting August 18, 2008. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Responsibilities : (1) Deliver high-quality undergraduate instruction in the areas of soil science, soil fertility and crop production; (2) assist in the development and implementation of program goals and objectives; (3) advise students and contribute to recruitment and retention efforts; (4) assist efforts to improve the competitiveness, profitability and sustainability of regional agricultural/agronomic business in the national and international marketplace; (5) develop and maintain a strong industry support network, and (6) service and research appropriate for a tenure track position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (1) Ph. D. or ABD in Soil Science, Soil Fertility, Soil Morphology, Agronomy or related discipline such as Soil and Water Quality with an Agricultural emphasis; (2) ability to deliver high-quality undergraduate instruction in areas such as soil science, soil fertility and plant nutrition, soil and water quality, plant physiology, crop production; (3) knowledge of variables that influence soil fertility and subsequent crop production leading to profitable agronomic crop production; (4) strong communication skills, and the ability to relate complex concepts to diverse audiences; (5) commitment to an experiential learning educational philosophy within the Land Grant mission.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (1) leadership experience within academic and industrial settings; (2) knowledge of strategic planning; (3) understanding of environmental factors associated with today’s agricultural practices that influence soil quality, morphology and fertility; (4) familiar with computer-based instructional technologies.

ANIMAL SCIENCE INSTRUCTOR
POSITION: Full-time, nine-month, annual renewable position starting August 18, 2008. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will engage in a strong teaching program that may include Introduction to Animal Science, Beef Production, Animal Health and Disease, Sheep and Swine Production Techniques, Horse Production, and/or other animal science courses suited to qualifications, expertise, and programmatic needs. Responsibilities will include advising undergraduates, recruiting/retaining students, giving leadership to livestock-related outreach and student co-curricular activities, program promotion, and student placement. Further duties may include providing management oversight to animal science facilities and budgets as assigned by the Department Head.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: M.S. in Animal Science, Agricultural Education or comparable M.S. degree in a related field with significant animal experience; M.S. degree must be in hand by start date. A combination of academic training and experience sufficient to provide quality undergraduate instruction. Knowledge of the livestock industry; hands-on knowledge and experience in beef, sheep & swine production; basic anatomy & physiology of varied livestock species and health & disease of livestock. Evidence of exemplary undergraduate instruction and advising experience, and ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences..
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in Animal Science by date of appointment, or DVM with large animal emphasis, or comparable terminal degree in a closely related field and significant livestock experience with the ability to conduct pertinent research. Experience in post-secondary animal science education: ability to teach a broad range of animal science courses; practical working knowledge of the livestock industry; experience in livestock-related extension, and outreach programming, and proficiency with modern instructional technologies. Evidence of exemplary undergraduate instruction and advising are strongly desired.

Salary and benefits package is competitive. This is a regular nine-month appointment with three month summer augmentation. Start date is July 1, 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter. TENURE TRACK POSITION IN ENVIRONMENTAL HORTICULTURE
POSITION: Nine-month, tenure-track faculty position in the Natural Resources Department at the Crookston campus of the University of Minnesota starting on January 7, 2008. This position provides instruction and leadership for the baccalaureate degree program in Horticulture with tracks in Environmental Landscaping and Production Horticulture. In addition, the position contributes to other departmental programs, including Golf and Turf Management, Park Management, and Natural Resources Management. Special emphasis on sustainable landscaping and the use of native as well as cultivated vegetation. Salary and rank dependent on qualifications and experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES: (1) Provide instruction in Environmental/Landscape Horticulture, and in related areas as determined by qualifications and interest, (2) Advise students in course selection, career planning, and club activities (3) Provide leadership for program growth, (4) Develop working relationships with the landscaping and horticulture industry to assist with student job placement and research grant procurement.(4) Promote the development of transfer programs with related 2-year college programs, (5) Develop an appropriate research and/or outreach program in candidate’s area of expertise and, (6) Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary faculty whose focus is the practical application of knowledge and technology.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D., ABD, or terminal degree in Horticulture, Environmental/Landscape Horticulture, Landscape Design, or related discipline; qualified to teach courses in, Environmental Landscape Design, Landscape Installation & Maintenance, Horticulture; contribute to Land Use Planning & Urban Forestry; strong interpersonal & communication skills; experience in the landscaping and/or horticulture industry; strong teaching interest & ability; and commitment to teamwork & interdisciplinary collaboration.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference given to candidates who have a record of successful teaching at the college level, or comparable extension/continuing education; evidence of ability to secure external funding for a successful research & outreach program; and a commitment to the design & installation of sustainable landscapes & conservation applications.
