News and information regarding negotiations between the University of Minnesota and the University Education Association-Crookston


News Update - August 10, 2006

Representatives from University of Minnesota administration and University Education Association (UEA) met over the past three days to continue discussions on a new contract. Many proposals were exchanged to attempts find the best contract language to fit the unique needs for both the faculty and administration at Crookston.

We were able to come to tentative agreement and understanding on language under a number of section titles, which are listed below:
Adjunct, Clinical, Visiting Prefixes to Faculty Rank; Association; Bulletin Boards; Campus Consultation; Campus Mail Service; Catalogues and Schedules of Classes; Certified Unit; Collective Bargaining Information; Confidentiality; Conformity to Law and Severability; Cost of Providing Information and Data; Equipment and Clothing; Faculty Ranks; Graduate Study; Grievance Procedure; Health and Safety; Information on University Positions; Introduction; Inventions and Financial Arrangements with Industry; Liability; Location of Sessions; Member, Non-Regular Appointment; Other Facilities, Services and Equipment; Parking Space; Personnel Files; Principal Administrator; Printing of Agreement; Professional Consulting, Service, Activities and Other Outside Activities; Recognition and Rights of Association; Regents’ Agenda and Minutes; Regular Appointment; Room Use; Single-Semester Leave; Tenure-track (also called Probationary) Appointment Definition; Terms Used Throughout the Contract; Titles of Sections and Provisions of the Contract; and Totality of Agreement.

We also exchanged proposals and are continuing discussions on numerous topics, including the following: Appointment Papers; Harassment, Non-Discrimination, Nepotism and Consensual Relationships; Intellectual Property; Management Rights;
Office Space; Release Time; Sabbatical; and Textbooks.

We are pleased with the progress made this week on a long list of items. Our next negotiations sessions are tentatively scheduled for August 16th and 17th in Crookston.
