News
and information regarding negotiations between the University of Minnesota
and the University Education Association-Crookston
Information
Update 1 – May 8, 2006
The University and UEA negotiating
teams met Thursday and Friday, May 4 and 5 in Duluth. Language for Duluth
Teaching Evaluations and for Length of Sabbaticals was discussed; tentative
agreement was reached regarding the Definition of a Member.
With regard to Crookston, the UEA
accepted University policy pending the completion of a ’06-’09
contract, except the union seeks a separate agreement on two Crookston
faculty issues, Grievance Procedure and Compensation. Both issues
were discussed, but agreement has not been reached.
Also, the University presented the
UEA with a list of topics on which it wishes to negotiate
’06-’09 contract language specific to UMC. That list includes:

MOU’s (Including Distance Education)
This should not be viewed as an
all-inclusive list of topics to be negotiated for Crookston. Both the
University and the UEA reserve the right to modify, add, or remove items
during the course of collective bargaining.
The next negotiations on Crookston
issues are scheduled for May 17-18, here at UMC. We will begin with an
informal discussion of workload; Chancellor Casey will join us for parts of
that discussion. We then hope to develop and exchange proposals for
actual language for Crookston faculty workload. Also, we expect to
continue negotiating on Grievance Procedure and Compensation issues to be
implemented pending negotiation of the ’06-’09 contract. Duluth management
representatives will not be present for the May 17-18 meetings.
The tone at the table remains positive.
The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) is one of four
