DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS, PUBLIC RELATIONS AND MARKETING
JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Communications, Public Relations and Marketing provides strategic leadership, marketing and external/internal communications counsel as a member of the administrative team; develops key messages, sets marketing goals and communication strategies and evaluates programs; serve as campus media spokesperson and develops presentations and oversees media interaction and relations; crafts speeches and presentations for chancellor for events, groups and media; work closely with academic departments, admissions, student affairs, athletics, Center for Adult Learning, international programs and development and alumni relations to market and promote the campus to prospective students, parents and donors; manages the Office of University Relations, which includes campus printing and graphics, campus photographer/editor, e-communications/Web staff, assistant director of communications and student workers; provides leadership in community relations, marketing, advertising and media relations to students, faculty and staff; and represents and promotes UMC to general public and the University community through committee participation, cross-functional responsibilities and personal contact while working a flexible schedule.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
40% Integrated Marketing Leadership and Oversight – Provide leadership for integrated image and branding marketing plan and market research development and ongoing assessment that includes admissions, athletics, development and alumni relations as well as Center for Adult Learning and International recruitment programs; chair campus Image & Marketing committee; review and coordinate major advertising and marketing efforts, including special events (both image and recruitment, in conjunction with appropriate unit lead); support admissions recruitment ads for print, radio, Internet, etc.; write/wordsmith and approve ad copy, scripts and templates; provide leadership and oversight for Web site development and e-communications strategies; work closely with outside marketing consultants as needed; edit/review/coordinate scripts for campus radio ads/TV ads as needed; in conjunction with admissions and other department heads, pre-produce, coordinate and lead commercials/video project development
40% Strategic Communications – Serve as media spokesperson; develop key messages and coordinate internal and external communication strategies for the campus, including editorial and image oversight of campus publications and broadcasts, Torch magazine, Crookston Campus E-Update, Eagle’s Eye, Insight Radio, etc.; support the communications needs of the chancellor; oversee and direct media relations strategy (development/creation of major activity messaging); provide training in media relations for campus leadership and staff; deliver expertise and advice for campus leadership in coordination with U of M University Relations; direct internal communications strategies targeting U of M system, e.g. U of M Editorial Board, marketing team, State Fair participation; provide expertise and advice in community relations, government relations and promotion of campus programs, events and activities.
20% Office Management – Manage business and financial plan for approx. $120,000-180,000 auxiliary printing and design business; develop, reconcile and oversee Office of University Relations budget, including invoice payment and contract development; manage consultants; provide oversight and direction for image data base system development and maintenance; provide leadership and supervision for Office of University Relations, including, assistant director, e-communications, printing and graphics, campus photographer/editor and student workers and volunteers; provide leadership in emergency planning and preparation; prepare and maintain continuity plans University Relations; responsible for ensuring that all communications comply with University policy and guidelines; responsible for campus promotions, special assignments, projects and committee work as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Baccalaureate Degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field, five years experience in strategic communications, public relations, institutional marketing or public/media relations role; demonstrated experience in marketing campaign development and assessment; exceptional leadership, relationship-building, strategic planning and motivational skills; excellent verbal/written communication skills, editing skills, project management, organizational, interpersonal and time management skills; commitment to diversity and ability to successfully relate/interact with diverse groups of people; and evidence of ability to establish rapport effectively with a wide variety of people and project a positive organizational image.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Earned Master’s degree; demonstrated excellence in collaboration and creating a team-oriented and goal focused environment; strong technical, computer, and multi-media skills and familiarity with photography; and understanding of and commitment to value of education and land grant mission.

DIRECTOR OF DIVERSITY PROGRAMS
POSITION: Ten-month, full-time, annual renewable position based on funding and performance starting July 1, 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter.
JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Diversity Programs provides direct support services to underrepresented student populations in the areas of cultural adaptation, personal development, and academic success. This position will provide leadership for a well-developed, comprehensive program dedicated to creating a strong and supportive campus environment for students of color, international students, GLBTA, women, students with disabilities, single parents, and other traditionally underrepresented students in developing intercultural competence. The Director is expected to perform functions that include advocacy, coordination, liaison and direct provision of services. The Director will work collaboratively with academic and student affairs, and consultatively with other areas of the campus in addressing issues of recruitment and retention of ethnic minority and culturally underrepresented students. The candidate should possess an appreciation for, and sensitivity to, issues such as equity, diversity, campus-climate and community. The candidate should have some familiarity with recruitment, retention and issues/conditions that impact traditionally underrepresented students in higher education. Some weekend and evening hours are required.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Orient traditionally underrepresented students to the campus culture; assist traditionally underrepresented students to determine and assess their educational goals and academic skills; provide support services to help traditionally underrepresented students achieve educational goals and attain or refine academic skills necessary to perform adequately in the classroom; promote and value the intellectual, career, social, ethical, and cultural development of the students; provide training in leadership skills and other personal and social skills for multi-ethnic students; offer or identify appropriate multi-ethnic mentors and role models; support outreach and community and service learning opportunities for multi-ethnic students; and develop proposals for funding mechanism.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Requirements for this position are a bachelor’s degree and two years of experience with issues of cultural diversity. The successful candidate will be dynamic, highly organized, and creative; possess effective interpersonal, communication skills, and a strong work ethic; and have demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree, experience in diversity program development and implementation in higher education; four years experience in recruiting, administration, advising, or counseling in a higher education setting; ability to identify needs of diverse student constituent groups, and respond effectively through prioritization and appropriate support; demonstrated the ability to develop and implement student of color retention activities; and possess a proficiency with various software applications that enhance management, communications and delivery of a wide variety of reporting, communications and program development needs.

HEAD WOMEN’S GOLF/ASSISTANT WOMEN’S BASKETBALL COACH
POSITION: Full-time, 9 month, annual renewable position starting in August. The Head Women’s Golf Coach is responsible for directing, supervising, and evaluating all aspects of the golf program; assisting with public and media relations efforts; recruiting players; supervising and evaluating assistant coaches; monitor student athletes academic progress; organize, staff, and supervise practice and off season programs; manage golf budget; develop game schedules in consultation with the athletic director; assist in fundraising; assist with coaching responsibilities in women’s basketball, work with the women’s basketball program under the discretion of the head women’s basketball coach; and other duties as assigned by the athletic director
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree; prior playing and/or coaching experience in the sport; excellent interpersonal and motivational skills; personal commitment to integrity of the athletic program and the concept of the student-athlete; knowledge of NCAA Division II rules and regulations; and basic computer skills.

DEPARTMENT HEAD (WITH FACULTY RANK) IN
MATH, SCIENCE, & TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
POSITION: The Department Head reports to the Senior Vice Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs and holds faculty rank concurrently with the term of appointment. The Department Head is the chief administrative officer and appointing authority responsible for a department organized for teaching, research, and service. The Department Head is expected to continue some teaching and research, to be active in professional organizations, and to contribute to the department and the field while functioning as administrator in the department. Salary and benefits package is competitive. This is a regular nine-month appointment with three month summer augmentation. Start date is July 1, 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter. Position will remain open until filled.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide academic and administrative leadership consistent with the principles of shared governance and the negotiated agreement; leadership in curriculum development; advocacy for department faculty and research in the department; promote and maintain a high-quality learning environment for students; determine annual department goals, objectives, and plans; prepare, prioritize, and monitor budget requests and expenditures; represent the department on administrative groups; communicate and implement university and system policy; recruit and mentor new faculty; seek additional funding sources; espouse and practice principles of affirmative action and equal opportunity; keep current with new developments in their field; maintain involvement with professional organizations; and fulfill teaching, research, and outreach mission of the University.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate degree, college level teaching and research experience in one of the department’s academic disciplines; track record of significant achievement in both teaching and research; evidence of leadership abilities, solid communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills; and hold credentials appropriate for tenure and rank of associate professor or full professor within the department.

BUILDING & GROUNDS WORKER
POSITION: Full-time, nine-month position at $11.90/hr. starting May 12th or as soon as possible thereafter. Responsibilities: perform general custodial work in campus buildings, scrub/mop/seal floors with heavy duty machines, clean bathrooms, change & clean lights using 12 ft. ladder, refuse removal, observe/report deficiencies in building hardware, doors, windows, & other facilities; perform grounds keeping tasks on campus, sweep & shovel snow, load & unload trucks; and move furniture, supplies & heavy equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to competently read, write, and understand English; and lift up to fifty pounds. Preference given to candidates who have experience performing custodial/maintenance work and experience using operating machinery/equipment.
